Akiko NakayamaHemispherical Portraits

A portrait created by envisioning bubbles as fleeting forms of life.
Ink dropped around the bubbles flows across their surfaces, guided by differences in pressure and surface tension, forming swirling patterns as it moves along and is drawn toward the interface.
Each bubble naturally seeks a spherical form, following the same physical principles. Yet no two are ever identical, and each reveals its own unique expression.
Akiko Nakayama (JP) (b. in 1988) is a painter who depicts the beauty of conveying energy metamorphosis through several media, such as installation, videos, and performance. She brings the painting to life by combining the energy of movement and the vibrance of colours. Called “Alive Painting.” She depicts the resonance between shapes and textures using different types of liquids, each with its own characteristics. Various mediums and colours are blended, and the works that change in lively ways are like improvisational poetry.
In recent years, she has appeared as the featured solo visual artist in collaboration with the Vienna Academy Orchestra, and has also participated in international events such as Ars Electronica Festival (2023), MUTEK Montréal, Glastonbury Festival 2025 with Floating Points, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. https://www.akikopainting.com/
