When we perceive a structure, we instinctively attempt to calculate and understand its curves and dynamics. The countless lines drawn by the laser resemble that cognitive process, occurring in an instant, slowed down and made visible.
The piece never speaks to you. But the space between you and the piece is never silent.
Through structures that exist between the real and the intangible, the work offers viewers a bird's eye view of their own cognition, examining the interplay between perception, imagination, and reality.
Shohei Fujimoto is an artist working with perception itself as his subject. Creating phenomena that move between the digital and the physical, he opens a space where one re-encounters the very senses a person is born with. His work has been shown in a wide range of venues, in Japan and abroad.
